Music with quality

I was surprised to find out that this band is almost up and running for eighteen years. Time flies. Snow Patrol is one of those typical bands that have mastered the noble art of making good tunes. Their style is rock, indie rock, alternative rock and pop. They are masters in creating a certain atmosphere in their songs. At the same time their music is not difficult to listen at nor predictable and fairly original with that. I shall not say that they have created a style of their own but they do have their sound and a particular way of being present in their music that makes you say: That's Snow Patrol. Enjoy some of their work...

This is a collection of disco music from the seventies. There are no artificial sounds here. Everything is played by hand and sung by real people without Auto-Tune. This kind of music isn't made anymore. I think that one of the last people to make this kind of music entirely by hand was Jamiroquai. (I'm not saying that all his music was made entirely by hand and you may correct me if I'm wrong). It's a shame but that is "progress" shall we say. So if you feel nostalgic or want to know the source of your clubbing music today, this is it. (Ambiance - old fashioned disco).

Seventies Disco

This band was the first band (and therefor MY band and don't you dare taking that away from me) that I discovered myself. Well not exactly myself of course. I was nine years old and the Rubettes came on the telly (so probably someone else knew them before me) with Sugar Baby Love. I was gobsmacked, impressed, baffled and hooked and from that moment on I knew that I had to listen more often to music because maybe there were more songs that would made such an impression on me. The Rubettes made pop/rock music but  mostly pop orientated and aiming as commercial as possible. Only making commercial pop music in 1974 was not considered cr*p music because the artists or bands still played their instruments and were actually real musicians. (Sampling did not exist, yet). The Rubettes danced, vocalled, backing vocalled and played their instruments. They weren't ugly but none of them had spent time in a gym to get a six pack and they did not show any flesh as is the standard nowadays. (Am I on a rant here?) In their music, very catchy music, you could find the influences of glam rock, with here and there a distortioned guitar or some very doo-woppy sounds that were remnants from the early sixties. I just loved it and you know what? As I'm old enough now not to care about other peoples opinions, I can safely admit that I  just fell in love with them, all over again. Enjoy...

The creator of some catchy tunes and also showing a great sense of humor as well as keeping in touch with reality. Pink is proof that you can be successful and not have to behave like some *&%^&*. Having sold more than forty million albums and seventy million singles shows that you are doing something good in the music business. Pink makes pop/rock music (more pop than rock) and is able to do so in a more creative way than most of her peers today. Her music is more instrument than sample based and that helped me to decide also to give her a place here. Enjoy this compilation...

A band like no others. Not only musically have they made history but even juridically and socially have they set an example that has shown that if you put your mind to it, every obstacle can be overcome. Judas Priest has been one of the first heavy metal bands to conquer the world. They have started in 1969 and are still gigging today. Their music has evolved from their humble blues/rock influences to heavy metal with the snarling, operatic voice and the use of two lead guitars. If you would like to know why rock bands of today can do what they do, study this band because they have been largely responsible that boundaries have been pushed and or broken. Enjoy this classic sound...

A band with a unique sound. Their music has some punk influence but at the same time is very melodic. They are a rock band but with their own way of interpreting rock. I think they must have been hugged by Darth Vader because they have this over all sound that makes you think they belong to the dark side. Their songs are well written and rich in instrumental settings and that is rather surprising as they are a trio. If you'd like to listen to something that is out of the ordinary, rock, mysterious even but not too harsh, this it. Enjoy...

The Darkness and their debut album Permission To Land. This band has it all. It's a sort of combined, take the best of all other rock groups and top it off with a we do it our own way, kind of thing. You will find great guitar work, a thundering bass, drums that show why a drummer is better than a beat box and vocals that will take you back to the early days of Led Zep or even Humble Pie. This is an album that you have if you say you like hard rock. If you don't have this, go and be ashamed... very ashamed!!! Enjoy this album...

This band plays a sort of relaxing "feelgood" music. Touching hip hop, jazz, blues, funk and rock but everything in a sort of non aggressive way. Great lyrics with a lot of humor. It's hard not to like the Fun Lovin' Criminals. They haven't had strings of hits or anything but their music can often be heard as back ground music because it is gentle and friendly and for those who want to pay attention, cleverly done. If you want to understand why "simple" music is good than you have found a perfect learning ground here. Enjoy.

This is a collection of songs from the eighties and just from the eighties. This was in the top 40 in those days. (I'm still not a huge fan.) Some songs are still making me a bit sick but other songs have matured like a good wine. Great, but I'm more a beer guy. For the eighties fans (And I know there are a few out there) I'm pretty sure you feel at home here.
(Over all ambiance: Old fashioned eighties disco except here and there...)

Compilation no 4

This is one of the albums I had to listen to when I was about nine and I thought, I'll share this with you. Unfortunately there are two songs missing but hey, it's the intention that counts. (I wonder if the old Arcade and K-tel albums would come out on cd if there would be a market for it.) This (double) album (then) presents some music from the fifties to the sixties to the beginning seventies. Let me know if you would like me to publish some more old age compilations from the original Arcade and K-tel period. (Over all ambiance: Calm-ish with some nostalgia...)
