Music with quality

This person has introduced me into a new world of awe and wonder. Marcus Miller is a bass player. And not just a bass player, he is one of the BEST bass players ever. His way of playing is astonishing. He can play fast yet melodic, funky with a great way of slapping and while doing so still creates sublime melodies. This man has been playing with Herbie Hancock, Luther Vandross and Miles Davis. ( No not all together in the same band.) Listen to what this wonderful player can do, The first nine songs are from the concert  A night in Monte Carlo and the rest is a compilation of his work. Enjoy...

This band has surprised me enormously. The thing with the Stone Roses is: they have made two studio albums and have yet managed to bring out six compilation albums. You will have to read the wiki-story if you want to find out what and how. Their music is pop music. Pure and simple and they make that rather nicely and easy on the ears. Enjoy.

Today I can safely say that I appreciate the work and influence and the start of certain musical movements of and because of the Ramones. In the seventies when I heard this for the first time, I was not very keen on them. Nowadays I understand and receive better the brute energy and the rough sounding songs. I can see at what point they must have influenced bands like the Clash and the Sex Pistols. The song Now I wanna sniff some glue puts a smile on my face. I'm not going to sniff some glue, never have but it's a song that shows this lovely primitive creativity that the Ramones have been able to put in there and it's something that has helped them to have their sound. Great, great stuff, enjoy...

It wasn't exactly what you were expecting after Wham broke up but you have to admit, it's an improvement. George Michael has become this artist that has been able to create so much music that there is now enough to please everybody individually. I personally am not too keen on careless whispering and such but there are some versions of Spin the Wheel and Fast Love that are definitely winners. George Michael is not an artist who has changed musical history but he has created some very fine tunes, enjoy...

I can't deny that when I heard the Smiths for the first time, I was not a fan. The structure of their songs I understood but how they were able to "glue" it together did not make any sense to me at all. And the vocals, what was that? Now, years later, I have grown to understand what and how the Smiths have done, what they did. Now I appreciate the guitar work of Johnny Marr. Looking back to the eighties, I find myself surprised that I did not take more time to get to know the Smiths. Well, for you, I have solved that problem, listen to their work and enjoy...

What a pleasure to listen to "The Wolves" again. The thing I like about them is that they have created their own "rock 'n roll" style and sound, simply by mixing different cultures together. Evidently the song everybody knows is La Bamba but yes, they have made other songs too. Los Lobos has this fresh approach towards country and rockabilly that I don't hear often enough in other acts. Enjoy yourselves with this collection of their work...

Al Di Meola is a guitarist  who has developed this wonderful way of playing that gives the impression that he is there just to be at the service of guitar sounds. His style is a mixture of latin, jazz, fusion and rock and this man is able to create these wonderful ambiances in his songs. He is certainly a technical player but doesn't shy way from exploring new sounds either. He's not a "shredder" but he could be. Absolutely fantastic, enjoy his work.

A soft rock band and normally I don't run after these, very hard but I thought that Toto has just this little bit more. Their vocals are always impeccable and the songs they create are of a superior level. Yet, there's no shredding or screaming or even some serious belting out. Great car music and also very nice as background sounds. Here are a few of their songs. Enjoy.

The music they make felt to me like Creedence Clearwater Revival meets Lynyrd Skynyrd and has taken one or two jazz lessons. What a fantastic good sounding band this is. And what a tragedy the Allman Brothers Band has known. You can understand why they also play blues music. And if a guitarist of your band is invited to play with people who are already legends, you can safely presume that you are in for a treat. The playlist contains a collection of songs and finishes with the concert At Fillmore East. Enjoy...

A flute... in a rock band??? And yes, indeed and it sounds great too. Jethro Tull made things happen that didn't exist before. They created the ultimated concept album, (1 song lasting over 40 minutes) they won a Grammy award for heavy metal, beating Metallica (haha) to it. Their music style is a wonderful concoction of blues, rock, classical music, folk music, jazz, hard rock and now world music. If there is any band that should win a gold medal for originality, whether that be for it's theatrical performances, their LP sleeves or their music it is definitely Jethro Tull. Enjoy their music...
