Music with quality

Chickenfoot is what you call a super group. Vocals: Sammy Hagar, Guitar: Joe Satriani, Bass: Michael Anthony, Drums: Chad Smith. These people have all, years of severe rock 'n roll experience behind them so as you can imagine, Chickenfoot is not playing some light evening jazz. Their music sounds fresh and shows the craftsmanship and experience throughout. You have heavy grooving musical structures nicely build up to a climax and the whole dipped in all the licks and tricks you will find in music from blues to trash. Mind you, you will not discover anything that you haven't heard before. The songs are original but I would not call them innovative. Never the less, if you want to listen to some rock music that is undeniably rocking, evidently this is the right stuff. Enjoy...

Jet was an Australian rock band and what matters right here is their debut album Get Born. Jet plays a mixture of rock styles and you can discover some punk influences as well. They certainly know how to rock and the rhythm section is a serious power house. The vocals have a rasp, as you may expect from a rock singer and the combination of them together makes this Jet debut album something that you can treasure. Something for the keyboard fans: The late Billy Preston has cooperated on this album too. I think this album has made it acceptable that  rock music could be coming from other places than the UK and the USA. Great job, enjoy...

Lady Antebellum is a new country band making a lovely mixture of country and pop music with some rock punches thrown in for free. Their album: Need You Now, is a great album to listen to. Easy on the ears and very catchy. Hillary Scott has a voice that blends in easily with the instruments and the male backing vocals give that extra bit of power where it is needed without drowning or stepping to much upfront. A typical Friday afternoon before you go out and get ready kind of album. It's upbeat, it's positive and leaves this feeling behind that makes you want to become part of the scenery. The atmosphere of farmer villages and walks through the field are drifting out of the speakers. The rhythms are never too slow and the melodies just grab you and take you away. Enjoy this album...

One of my favourite bands is actually a band that never really did exist. The Rutles were a fictional band. The thing I admire the most with them is that they sound so familiar. Their songs have this wonderful creativity and craftsmanship that few bands have been able to expose. It's almost as if their songs have been played before by a different band, go figure... Their lyrics are simply marvelous, lovely gems of wordplay stuck to these ear-pleasing melodies. If you want to know the story of the Rutles you can watch that here.
I've put up  a collection of the Rutles songs underneath. If you want to have a nice sixties feel for a while, here's your chance again. Enjoy...

We are talking about the daughter of Elvis Presley and her debut album: To Whom It May Concern. This first album of Lisa Marie Presley is a great piece of work. It's melancholic, it's dark, moody and there is this sulking kind of atmosphere with traces of rebellion and hidden anger. This is a relatively calm album. There are no fast songs or wild bashing rhythms. The songs are well structured and the instrumental settings are present at the right moment and in the right place. Lisa Marie's voice fits in perfectly with the sound and ambiance created. A great album that gets better the more you hear it. Enjoy...

I was just curious when I saw this. So I started listening. I found out that I like it. This is nice and calming. The amalgam of sounds is a positive one. This is a very nice way to start to explore some choir work. Gregorian chant in this way enables you to get acquainted with the vocal style. You will also recognise  some melodies. Some of the song choices surprised me but are at the same time interesting enough to listen to. This version of Stairway to heaven for example (No, it is not improving it.) would be great to hear in a church. Brothers in arms is also a very creative rendition of the original.  The guitar sound (if it is a guitar at all???) is sometimes a bit too plastic but the overall ambiance is nice and pleasant. Great, calming background music. Enjoy...
