Music with quality

A rock band that scored hits throughout the eighties. We're talking simply straight forward music here. The influences are blues, rock and some soul. Huey Lewis and The News have not created a new music style or sound or anything though I have to admit they do have their own sound. The typical voice of Mr Lewis is evidently fairly important to that. One of their songs figured in an incredible successful movie did help to propel them firmly in the lime light as well. Here's a collection of their work. Enjoy...

A punk rock band that started when punk was already on it's way out in 1987. This band makes very good punk/rock music. Greenday is a trio so they have to deliver when playing live. (And they do). Their music is fast and melodic with here and there something commercial thrown in. It's nice on the ears but one of the things that is a bit strange is that they play (quite a lot actually) with the volume button when recording. The end of most songs is way louder than the beginning but hey, that doesn't change the fact that their music is well worth to listen to. Enjoy a compilation of their work.

If you are a hard rock fan and you are wondering who David Coverdale is; A) you are at the right place but B) if you are over thirty and you don't know, you can not call yourself a hard rock fan. David Coverdale sung with Deep Purple from 1973 until 1976, he also is the one from the album Coverdale & Page. So if you don't know who this person is, sit down and start listening. Admire his way of saying, whispering, howling and screaming his lyrics accompanied with the right instrumental setting at the always right place. This is one of the best examples of how to make classic, no samples, all instrument played, hard rock. The collection is created from his early work up until "now" so here and there you will have a difference in volume, sorry about that. Otherwise, enjoy...

Yes, yes, yes, I know, you are wondering what they are doing here. Well, Maroon 5 has accomplished with their music, multiple platinum sales world wide and that does qualify them here. I know that there's nothing new to discover when listening to their music but... one thing is for sure, their music is catchy and easily to remember and these two things are a combination that takes you to success. The music is pop / rock mixed with some gadgets and recording ways that every studio can now provide in the blink of an eye. I would not describe this music as mind blowing but it is good if you need some spiritual uplifting and a little bit of positivo's in your step. Enjoy this compilation...

Art Garfunkel, the other half of Simon and Garfunkel, has not been as successful as Paul Simon but has still made a few songs that are well worth listening to. Vocal wise he has/had one of the most fragile sounding voices in the history of music and that voice has been used to record some sublime works of Art. (Yes, I thought this a rather fun pun, too). His solo albums have not been able to copy the success of Paul Simon and I think that is because Art has stayed to much on one side of the road. His solo albums aren't diverse enough and of course, in the end that is something that will trip you up. Never the less, here is a collection of his solo work and if you are in the mood for relaxing and getting your ears stroked by gentle sounds, enjoy this...

Nine Inch Nails = Trent Reznor. Trent is the only permanent member of the group. The music is industrial rock. It is fast, loud, aggressive, wild and here and there surprisingly TLC. Very interesting to discover and to explore at the condition that you do like the rock side of it all. This is some very serious music that has been a bit underrated in Europe and deserves a larger recognition. Nominated for Grammy Awards and having won some too, is proof that this music is something that should be listened to by every rock aficionado at least once in a life time. Enjoy this compilation...

Mr Bryan Ferry has started his musical career in 1971 and is still performing. First with the band Roxy Music and also a solo career. His music ranges from glam rock to glam pop to soul. His music should be the best elevator music ever if Brian Ferry hadn't been able to give all his music this... extra... something. There is something that makes his music stand out and differ from the rest. It is that something that makes you listen to his music and suddenly while listening, you just pay a bit more attention. Have a listen and enjoy...

The smooth, movin' and groovin' sound of Mr. Bootsy Collins. If there is anybody who deserves to be named as an influential bass player it is him. Funk and groove are the two bass-ics that BC has amplified and scattered all over the world. A short (eleven months) experience with James Brown resulted in a richer sound. Bootsy Collins is one of the bass players that has this "juicy" sound. Nothing hard per se but a sound that "gels" everything, musically together. This is the music that makes your body move and it goes well beyond dancing. Enjoy this compilation...

This is about the "original" Skid Row with vocalist Sebastian Bach. Not only were they an incredible seriously rocking band but their ballads were without a shadow of a doubt an example of how a rock ballad is supposed to sound. The rhythm section of this band knows how to thunder through songs and the guitar works are seriously ass-kicking. And... the vocals by the one and only Sebastian Bach. Just fantastic!!! And here is something for the ladies, have a look at pictures from this band during their hey-days in the late eighties and beginning nineties. You may discover some serious knicker-wetting images. Enjoy this compilation of their work. (And thanks to Alain to make me discover this some 20 years ago.)

Lloyd Cole and the Commotions was one of those typical eighties bands that passed me by completely. They didn't sound serious enough, I thought. Today,  I know better. Now I see this band as a group that I should have given more attention. The thing with this band is that the most interesting part is in the lyrics, for most of the songs. You won't hear any face melting guitar solo's or a roaring drum kit or a belting it all out vocalist. This is nice, friendly, pop music. So if you are looking for something that enables you to relax while filling your ears gently, give this a try... enjoy.
