This all girl group from 1960 has made history. This was the first all female group that was signed by the record company Motown, than still carrying the original name: Tamla Motown. The Marvelettes had songs written and produced for them by such artists as Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson. The typical Motown sound will be easy to recognise. Upbeat songs with a simple steady beat and great vocal work. The group underwent a few changes but stayed all female until the end. This is the band that has set the example for Diana Ross and the Supremes. They have never been able to reach that amount of success, perhaps the world wasn't ready for them than. Thanks to a friend (Gabriel) who introduced me to this I'm able to share this with you. Elsiane is a duo and the have created this mixture between jazz, world music and trip hop. You will also find elements of classical and pop music. This is concentrated creativity. The collection and mixture of the sounds is from a quality and richness I have rarely come across. On top of that you will hear some great vocal work. The Eagles of Death Metal is a band that has only two consistent members: Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme. The sound is rock and within that area of music all sorts of influences can be detected. Punk, rockabilly etc it's all in there. The album you can listen to is a great rock album called: Death By Sexy. This is just good entertaining fun to listen to. The tracks have this upbeat kinda feeling and the overall energy from this album is very positive. Seen from a commercial point of view, the album has never been anywhere close to important but that doesn't mean that this isn't a good album. Enjoy this little gem: Death By Sexy...

Soundgarden is a grunge band from Seattle. They have had a huge influence in the history of rock music but have never achieved as much success as other bands of the grunge period as their peers like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Perhaps the sound of Soundgarden was a tiny bit too dark? Fact is that the album Superunknown is a brilliant album that deserves a place on MWQ. This album has it all, power, aggression and volume. And yet there is also this dreamy, ballad-ish, romantic kinda side. A great example of grunge history, enjoy this album...

Richard Cheese is the vocalist of Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine. The music style is latin, swing and jazz. He's got a voice that is somewhere in the kind of crooner area, like Frank Sinatra and the likes. The music is smooth, very well executed and easily recognisable. The instruments do a great job in order to get the best out of the songs and the way they are able to play their style and music is simply brilliant. This music is great as background music and  a certain "class and style"  will be put in the atmosphere. Unless you actually know the original songs, enjoy...

This is a band that plays Indie music and you will find influences from pop music, rock and psychedelic styles. This is about their debut album The Coral. A skillfully crafted piece of musical art. A wonderful gritty voice that pushes emotion through your speakers with force and aggression but can also be dreamy sometimes and there are moments that you actually may hear a certain Jim Morrison-ish kinda sound. The structures of the song can jump from one style or rhythm into another and that makes that you won't get bored when you listen to this. I, errr, well, I errr, I'm a bit ashamed of myself because I haven't put a mention of this person on MWQ earlier than today. And even today I would not have done this if somebody hadn't put my attention to this in the first place. (Thank you Celine Lheen). So Mr. Burt Bacharach... This gentleman has given us so much music that we know his songs without even knowing they were his. Legio are the artists that have performed his songs. We find his music in films, musicals and of course the top 40.  His song structures, accords and instrumental settings have created a collection of songs that shall always be recognised as the songs of Bacharach. An amazing musician, song writer and observer of life. Frank Zappa was a person who questioned through his music, the life of our society and put his points of view and remarks forward. His style of music was a mixture of rock, jazz, musical, soul, funk and pop music. He has inspired numerous bands and artists but has never aimed to become a commercial artist. Frank Zappa did not want to be to told by any label, producer or sound engineer what to do or how to do it. He believed in absolute creativity and refused to work if this would not be the case. It is exactly the opposite of how most modern producers and record companies of today work. Frank Zappa's music is a collection of boundless creativity mixed with criticism and humor. Enjoy... 

Massive Attack is a band that plays a mixture of trip hop, hip hop and alternative rock but you will find soul and reggae influences too.Their music uses various instruments and samples. The services of a large group of other musical artists are found back in their music. Their music has structures that are able to function without choruses and that feat alone makes that the songs have a creativity level that is well above average. It is great to hear that the influences of the different music styles have been mixed in such a way that you will recognise them but at the same time have been able to create this whole new ambiance. This is a band that has been showing the world that instruments and computer technology can live in perfect harmony. Enjoy...

The Hives are a Swedish punk/rock band. Their music is rich in rhythms and melodic structures. In some ways it reminds me of the early work of Joe Jackson with his album:Look Sharp. (This did not have the same powerful sound however.) Besides of making very good music they have a great look as well. Always dressed in matching outfits and they have a great stage presence on top of that. The Hives have created their own sound and style and they deserve a place on Music With Quality.
