Music with quality

Golden Earring made the classic hit Radar Love. That song has been played by a serious amount of other artists and you will find it back in quite a few movies as well. They have started in (and I was very surprised about this) 1961 and they are still playing their own brand of hard rock 'n roll. They have a wonderful rhythm section and the drummer has a great way of stealing the show during concerts by wearing a jacket that contains hidden "drumpads". The bass player is cited by Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) as an important influence. Even though Golden Earring has never really made it to the top internationally, their music is well appreciated and even today, where some of the band members are getting close to the ripe age of seventy, they still manage to play for sold out arena's. Enjoy their music...

Rock 'n roll as it should be. Guitars, piano, a sax and some rock chicks doing the back up vocals. Herman Brood was a professional alcoholic and drug addict and lived some serious, good, rock 'n roll life. And his end was rock 'n roll and courageous too because not everybody has the balls to jump of the roof from a hotel in Amsterdam to get an early exit. His music is straight forward, honest and no cheating, again, rock 'n roll. Old school perhaps but still rich and full of power. Enjoy this compilation.

I think that Jeff Healey's blues/rock music is great to listen to. As he was blind, he learned to play the guitar while it was on his lap. This made him play the instrument with ten fingers in play position, instead of the usual nine. (As a pedal steel guitar but without the steel "bottle neck") I heard his debut album and saw him in the movie Road House and I was impressed and loved his sound and way of playing. Besides of that, I love his way of singing. So I listened to his first three albums and than lost him out of sight a bit. And today, I learned two things. Jeff Healey also plays jazz, American hot jazz to be exact. The other thing I learned, was that Jeff Healey is no longer with us. It is one thing to lose an artist at any given moment but... they're human too and people die. And you can sort of like, talk about it "together". Not me, I only got the "update" today. I started to do this article and thought; I haven't been checking up on him for a while let's find out if he's done some great new things. Well, what else can I say but... You'll be missed. I've put up his albums including the jazz ones. For evrybody else who didn't know that Jeff Healey also played jazz, let me tell you this: his voice blends in brilliantly, it's played to perfection but not stiff, it's groovin' and it's just lovely to hear. Enjoy his music

In 1984, in the middle of all these up coming electronic sounds and the start of house and acid music, this stood out like nothing else. Sade, calm and soulful smooth listening,  the ultimate get it on-music. There was nothing that came even close and there hasn't been anything that made it quite so big. Sade is the most successful female artist in Britain. A wonderful calming voice that's embedded with subtle rhythms and melodies. If you need to learn how to make music that will relax you, this is it. Enjoy this collection of songs...

Rush

This is a band that enables you to listen to structural music that you've never heard before and listen to it over and over again, without getting bored. This is a supercalifristic expyalydocious power trio by excellence. (There, I've said it) Rush has evolved in a band of pure musical technicians but with feelings and are able to show that in their live performances. Their music is based on rock ' n blues and all the roads you can musically take from there. I don't think that I have said it before and I have doubts (but do not say never) that I will say this again very soon: Rush is fantastic!!! Enjoy a compilation of their work.

We are talking trash metal here. Fast, loud and aggressive would be a correct way to describe their music, though Megadeth has also created some excellent ballads. The main and (now only) permanent member of Megadeth is Dave Mustaine who also has been a member of Metallica. Their albums are rich in fast and very heavy guitar work which was a result of Mustaine being fired from Metallica. You can listen here to a collection of their work, enjoy...

I could not resist. I know that some of you don't consider sounds that are created with the help of samples and computers as "music" but this will maybe change your mind. Here you will find albums that are mixed and remixed. As usual I don't really use a logical order. I just put up what I like most. The albums may be from the same label but that doesn't mean that you are stuck to the same style and type of music. A fact that I appreciate. You will find music to dance and music to chill. What more can I say than, check it out and enjoy.

I started listening to Zero 7 a few years ago. I was talking with a friend (who lived in our neighbourhood in London and moved to Australia, this one's for you Mike) about music and I told him that I had heard some very creative new music made by a group called Zero 7. He already knew all about it. Long story short, Zero 7 is a duo of music engineers and they started with remixing other peoples work and ended up making their own music. They have created a great sound. Calm, peaceful and very original. If you want to wind down and chill, this is it. Enjoy.

I have to admit that I was a bit surprised about this myself. I had never heard of Peter, Paul and Mary but I read something about them when I was trying to get some info about John Denver. Well I thought it couldn't hurt to find out what they were doing and I accidentally stumbled back in the past to have a new Folk Music experience. P,P & M is simply, two guitars (acoustic with nylon strings, yes) and three vocals. I've checked them out on youtube also and it appears that they had a wonderful happy time in their hey-day. So here's a compilation, ready for some classic good times? Enjoy...

The soundtrack of this movie is now also on the Music With Quality website. Enjoy this beautiful album...
