Music with quality

This is about the album: Music for men. Gossip (without the The) has created a lovely album here. It's soulful, it has body and is strangely comforting in a sort of  mix musical style, kinda way. It may sound moody but that is just a first appearance. This is an album that needs a bit of listeners patience, in order to be better appreciated. I know that by todays standards we don't have the time for that but I think that here you can find the exception that deserves more listening. Soul, punk, hip hop and a free way of recording an album. Great stuff, enjoy ...

This band has created the sound of a lot of dancing places throughout the seventies. Sister Sledge was the disco group in the seventies. Their most successful album has been produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. (Look these names up and you will understand why). They have probably made the smoothest and disco-est sounds ever. Even the Bee Gees were unable to come close to this sound. Sister Sledge has definitely shown the world how disco music was to be made and performed. It makes you wonder what a song by them and the Bee Gees would have done. Anyhow, listen to this collection and have a good time...

I discovered the Euphoria album from Leftover Salmon, recently. We're talking a nice mixture of bluegrass and rock, here. I was surprised by its originality. The songs are diverse and beautifully crafted. So when hearing the first track , a ska song with a nice blues solo, I decided that I could safely throw all my prejudice out of the window. This is an album that stays surprising, track after track. Enjoy...

This band plays Indie Rock. And they play that well. I like the rawness, the originality. The Arctic Monkeys started in 2002. They have had (in the UK) four number one albums. Their music is not exactly a new sound or style but is however filled with very original licks, hooks and and melodies. The songs make you want for more as you permanently want to find out what the next track is. They have a great energy and the vocals are recognisable anywhere. You can find their music here, have a good time and enjoy...

You can always invite me to come and see this wonderful artist sing. Her music is used for movies and ads etc. I love the voice, the musical setting and it is simply a great way of showing how soul music is to be made. Marlena Shaw is an artist who never made it big commercially and I think that is just down to a management that isn't making big enough waves. This is  classic soul music and deserves to be way more appreciated. The entire musical setting is there to push the voice more forward, many a modern artists could take some time and listen to this to learn some tricks of the trade. Enjoy...

This is a band that I missed out on completely. When they were at the height of their fame I was listening to other styles of music. And a few years later somebody told me to listen to Travis. So I did. I have to admit that I was not overly impressed with their work but after a few times of careful listening and trying to make sense of it all, it got through. Travis is nice back ground music and great if you need a singalong. You won't hear anything that you haven't heard before but at least the way Travis has put it together makes their music nice enough to listen to if you are looking for something simple and relaxing. Enjoy...

Jamiroquai has set the bar, of making quality music, so high, that even when you are not a particular fan of acid jazz, you can only say that is absolutely incredible . What a wonderful group of musical technicians, yes, but not the kind of people who try to show of how good they manipulate their instruments. No, here we have musicians who willingly place themselves in musical situations that enable the beauty of a song to shine even brighter. The enormous amount of creativity you can find in this music is absolutely impressive. This band has placed its own mark on music. Neatly, often entirely handcrafted pieces of art that are a musical pleasure for the ears. Enjoy...

This is about an album that I heard a thousand years ago. This is a live Bette Midler show from 1977. Bette Midler - Live at last. Not only do you have on this album some very, very funny sketches but the music is absolutely fantastic. Bette shows that she can sing and that she knows how to entertain a crowd. I'm not a hundred % sure but I think that you can hear the fastest jazz tunes on this album ever. A lovely album to listen to, enjoy...

If you want to listen to somebody who has been able to change the sounds of music as well as the ways of recording, Moby is the person to impress and teach you a thing or two. Moby was one of the first people gaining success by remixing and sampling songs in a very wide scale of music. And we have to be thankful for that because without Moby the whole development concerning, let's call it, "digital recycled" music would not have been where it is now. Enjoy his work...

A new person in the world of music, with a very strong personality and the capability to put down some serious original music. This is Lana Del Rey and we are talking about her debut album: Born To Die. This is something new. It is sad, melancholic and filled with sounds that you somehow recognise but can't describe very well as what they represent for you. This is an incredible powerful album that can make you think about different artists and music styles but is to go down in history as one of those musical art works that stands out because of it's volume of creativity and will end up, probably just because of this, under appreciated. If you are looking for some new sounds and ways to blend music together, enjoy this...
