Marvelettes

This all girl group from 1960 has made history. This was the first all female group that was signed by the record company Motown, than still carrying the original name: Tamla Motown. The Marvelettes had songs written and produced for them by such artists as Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson. The typical Motown sound will be easy to recognise. Upbeat songs with a simple steady beat and great vocal work. The group underwent a few changes but stayed all female until the end. This is the band that has set the example for Diana Ross and the Supremes. They have never been able to reach that amount of success, perhaps the world wasn't ready for them than.
